While Kevin McGonigle And Max Clark Grab Attention, Do Not Sleep On This Detroit Tigers Prospect

It seems like a foregone conclusion that Kevin McGonigle will arrive in Detroit this summer. It is also very possible he will be joined by fellow top Detroit Tigers prospect Max Clark at some point this summer, as both prospects are ranked #1 and #2 respectfully in the Tigers system. There is another name for Tigers fans or just baseball fans to keep in mind, first base/DH Josue Briceño, who has also been behind the plate defensively.

Josue Briceño is ranked either the #3 or #4 prospect in the Tigers system, depending on who you read. There is a lot to like about Briceño, and it is tantalizing to think about what he could bring to the middle of the Tigers batting order. His profile borders on elite.

Josue Briceño stands 6 foot 4, and possesses plus-plus power that screams middle of the lineup. His strong feel for the barrel is elite, and he has shown a strong discipline in pitch selection. He does have one aspect that he needs to work on and clean up, fielding. Briceño’s long-term projection is first base/DH due to low agility.

It could be a safe bet that Briceño finds a home at first base and sticks there, as he has a high ceiling as a corner infielder. It would not be surprising to see the Tigers call Briceño up for a stint this summer to begin to get him acclimated to MLB. The Tigers have a bright future, and the trio of McGonigle, Clark, and Briceño is a great start to that future.
While McGonigle and Clark get the bulk of attention, no one should sleep on Josue Briceño.
