Ace Frehley’s Best KISS Solos

Ace Frehley influenced generations of rock and metal guitarists through his melodic, free-driven, style. While KISS fans know the sheer brilliance of the New York City-born Frehley, and music fans and historians agree, his work remains underrated. To fully appreciate his work, a closer look at a few KISS songs will shed light on why so many musicians to this day have been influenced by Frehley.

“Strange Ways,” -Hotter Than Hell (1974),  Ace Frehley attacks this song (one he wrote) with a loose, bluesy lead. The guitar is raw and spacey and almost acts as another song.

“Got Love For Sale,” – Love Gun (1977), One of the more underrated KISS songs, Frehley’s arrangement is really strong. He switches tones midway through the lead solo, giving it a layered feel.

“100,000 Years,” – KISS Alive! (1975), The live version features an extended middle solo and ending solo. It show the power and sheer greatness of Frehley.

There are plenty of other KISS songs that could be included in this list. The point is, while not a technically sound guitarist (which most who are self-taught are), Ace Frehley is still one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Fans, music historians, and musicians agree.
