With the news that the Star Wars: Starfighter teaser trailer will be shown at this year’s D23 in Anaheim, California, August 14-16, a new rumor has emerged that not only is not going away but is gaining momentum: Rey will appear in the film. While Starfighter has been touted as a standalone movie, it seems set to add more content to the sequel trilogy, much like Star Wars: Rogue One did for the original trilogy.

While Star Wars: Starfighter has been under tight wraps, it is plausible Rey is in the film. It is rumored she will be a Jedi Master who takes in a new Force-sensitive character. Starfighter is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, making it the first follow-up Star Wars film set after the sequels.
Also, a report surfaced that Starfighter will indeed be set in the new Jedi Order, founded by Rey. While it is likely Rey will not have a large role, it seems that she could come in towards the end of the film in much the same way Luke Skywalker appeared in The Force Awakens.
It is also being reported that a new trilogy is in the works, and that Starfighter could serve as a segue to both add more substance to the sequel trilogy and launch the new trilogy.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set for release in theaters on May 28, 2027. It is said that the new Star Wars trilogy will include charters from Episodes VII- XI. While the sequel trilogy did divide the Star Wars fan base, there were good moments, and with Dave Filoni now calling the shots at Lucasfilm is feels like this will turn out well.
Lucasfilm is actively expanding the sequel trilogy era and its surrounding timeline. For instance, The Mandalorian era is focusing on building a bridge to the New Republic era. This will be strengthened by the release of Ahsoka Season 2.
This is the right path for Lucasfilm to take. It is not the safest path, as the sequel trilogy did a lot of damage to the fans, but in terms of story and moving Star Wars forward, it is a good path to take.
